HOPE’S mouth fell open. “Larry said what?”

Ben had decided to catch up with Hope before their class and tell her what Larry had said. Her shock made Ben feel better immediately. “Larry’s an ass, but—” He sighed. “He said they meet on Tuesday nights, and David’s always MIA on Tuesdays.”

Hope’s face was red and her eyes hard. “I’ll kill him myself. That little—” She cut herself off and blew out a long breath. “Look, I can’t tell you about Tuesdays. That’s David’s decision. But I can tell you without a single doubt that Larry has nothing to do with it, and David has nothing to do with him. He’s sure as hell got better taste than that.”

Ben almost smiled. “May I quote you to him on that?”

She folded her arms over her chest. “Not if you ever want to eat my cooking again.”

Ben held up a hand in surrender. “Yes, ma’am.” He dropped the hand. “And thank you. It’s probably none of my business anyway.”

Hope leaned forward. “No, I think it is your business. But David has to make the final call on that.”

Ben nodded. “We’re supposed to talk tonight. I don’t know that I’m looking forward to it.”

Hope grinned and waved a hand. “Don’t worry, it’ll be fine. Unless my idiot brother manages to screw things up, which I wouldn’t put past him.”
